My favorite movie of Robin Williams was Dead Poets Society. Robin Williams passed away yesterday and the apparent cause of death was suicide.
My first thought was “how is that possible?”
He was a my favorite comedian and brought so much joy and laughter to my life.
He was extremely successful and had a beautiful family.
What would make him take his own life?
His family is going to live with the consequences of his death for years.
But instead of finding out why it happened, the bigger question is…
Could his death been avoided?
The challenge we face in society today is that there is still so much stigma attached to working on your mental problems with a therapist.
Most people would rather suppress these mental thoughts and emotions, believing if they do talk to someone it means they are guilty.
It means there is something wrong with them.
But that’s not what they’re afraid of.
If someone finds out about it, like their family, friends or co-workers they would automatically think they are weak.
Dealing with mental problems is still a taboo subject in this day an age in our country.
And that is a shame. The results speak for themselves.
Robbin Williams, Michael Jackson dealing with pain, Whitney Huston taking drugs to deal with her inner demons, violent shooting at school from mentally challenged young adults.
It’s not only their lives but the trail of hurt, confusion and devastation they leave behind them.
What about marriage related problems. Most of us seek help when its too late or worse move on to the next relationship hoping it would get better.
I hope the death of Robbin Williams is not in vain.
It is our duty and responsibility to seek help.
If not for you, then to protect the love ones’ around you.
RIP Robbin Williams. You will always be remembered.
Thanks for a great post. I thought Robin Williams was dynamic in “Hook.” Makes me cry every time…:) It’s good to know that it’s never too late (while we are in the land of the living!)
